Apple PDA

The Apple PDA (Apple Newton or just Newton) was developed and marked by Apple Inc. Since the company maintains long-time relationships with Japan, the engineering and manufacturing of Apple personal digital assistants are done there. In fact, the first items were known as "MessagePad" and today’s name was used for operating system. As time goes by, the name “Newton" has been spread over the device and software together.

At first, Newton was not planning to produce PDA and the idea of it’s creation appeared much more later. This item was intended to be totally new thing in computer world. One of it’s use was known as the "Architect Scenario", that is to work fast with a client in order to create, to modify two-dimensional home plan.

At that time the programming language used by PDA Apple was “Dylan", which was quite useful and comfortable for its days. “Dylan" was reduced in importance after Apple PDA has obtained new smaller form. Later on, the Apple project has left it’s initial goals and was renewed as Macintosh peripheral and not as computer that might contend with Macintosh.

Apple defined the concept of the Personal Digital Assistant. PDA Apple was meant as a kind of laptop, which everyone could take anywhere. For example, during several days when you are on a trip it is possible to use it as a fax, print, to explore Internet or to revise e-mail. By the way, it was supposed that your e-male would be not only checked but also composed. It was planned to take notes with the help of PDA Apple and also to record conversations for playback.

All of these functions are supposed to be carried out without keyboard. However the company’s output used to experience some Apple PDA problems. Due to some reasons, that is high price (up to 1000$ ) and it’s uncomfortable large size (it was hard to fit it in an average pocket) Apple Newton was not successful.

Owing to such insufficiently considered features and some problems with handwriting recognition Apple PDA didn’t manage to become popular among customers. That’s why it was easily replaced by new product of Palm.Inc, Palm Pilot. It was smaller and thinner in size, lower in cost with more perfect handwriting recognition system.
